Ronnie Jagday was a multi-sport star throughout his youth in Coquitlam, but the 1996 graduate of Centennial Secondary School made his mark locally, provincially, nationally and internationally as a field hockey athlete.
Jagday excelled during a decade-long career with the Canada men’s national field hockey team and collected an amazing 125 international caps — including 40 by the time he had turned 21 — competing on fields from Chile to Egypt, from Cuba to Scotland. His list of achievements on the hockey field include: a best-ever top-eight finish for Canada at the 1998 World Cup in Utrecht, Holland; a fifth-place finish for the national squad at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; and a gold medal for Canada at the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg.
The latter victory led to Jagday fulfilling his lifelong dream of becoming an Olympian, and he represented his country at the 2000 Olympic Summer Games in Sydney, Australia. He joins in the Coquitlam Sports Hall of Fame his father, field hockey coach Shiv Jagday, who was inducted in 2023.
