Demonstrating resilience and versatility throughout her soccer career, Coquitlam native Brittany Baxter established herself as part of the wave of Canadian soccer stars during the 2000s.
A product of Coquitlam Metro-Ford Soccer Club, she garnered attention and key roles throughout her teen years, including a scholarship to the University of Nebraska.
Her first national team experience was with the Canadian juniors in 2002, followed by a call-up to the senior women’s side the same year. In 2004, the forward topped the FIFA u-19 women’s championships with a tournament-best seven goals in four games, garnering the Adidas Silver Shoe Award.
In 2011, now playing midfield, she was a standout in Canada’s win at the Pan Am championships. She played on the Canadian Olympic teams in 2008 and 2012, when they won a bronze medal with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over France.
Baxter appeared in two FIFA World Cups and played 132 games with the women’s national team. She also had a well-rounded pro club career, with stops in Sweden and Germany, and for both Vancouver and Seattle, before retiring in 2014.
