The Douglas College Royals badminton program was based in Coquitlam, at the college’s David Lam Campus, and competed at the City of Coquitlam’s Pinetree Community Centre next door.

In the mid-2000s and early 2010s, Douglas boasted one of the top badminton programs in Canadian post-secondary varsity sports. Notably, in addition to posting an extraordinary record of eight consecutive British Columbia College Athletic Association Provincial Team Championships from 2006 to 2013 — going undefeated through all eight seasons — at the national level, the Royals further distinguished themselves by winning three straight Canadian Collegiate Athletics Association National Team Championships from 2007 to 2009.

Douglas’ national dominance during those years was built on a foundation laid in the 1990s that included two undefeated championship seasons. The Royals badminton program was recognized in 2024 by the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association for Badminton Supremacy at the CCAA 50th anniversary. That honour was based on their performances at CCAA National Championships and placed them eighth among the top 50 programs in CCAA history.
