The late Ron Boileau is remembered for his dedication to Junior A hockey in British Columbia.
The longtime Coquitlam resident started with the BC Hockey league in 1988 as vice-president and statistician, then served as league president from 1990 to 2003 — that span of 13 years makes him the league’s longest running president. Boileau spent a great deal of time researching the BCHL back to its roots in 1961 and much of that data was contained in the 500-page League Media Guide that was used starting in 1997 (he compiled all BCHL stats from 1987 to 2003).
An Honoured Member of the BCHL, he was also credited with starting the Canadian Junior A Hockey League — he developed a league logo and forged its list of bylaws — and was named its first president, serving five years before stepping down for health reasons.
During his hockey career, he also worked with the New Westminster Bruins of the Western Hockey League. His collection of media guides and memorabilia was one of the most extensive in Canada and dates back to the 1920s.
