Lacrosse was a lifelong passion for Coquitlam’s Sohen Gill and the consummate volunteer rolled up his sleeves to serve the game and its people for decades. The Burnaby-born son of immigrants fell in love with the sport as a youngster and was a skilled player at the senior level.

Even before his playing days had ended, Gill got involved behind the scenes as a coach and referee. After hanging up the stick, he continued coaching, then took on the general manager’s role with the Coquitlam Senior Adanacs for a 10-year run, including the 1980 World championship team.

In 1987, he became the Western Lacrosse Association commissioner but was sidelined in 1990 when a terrifying accident while fighting a fire in Vancouver put the lieutenant firefighter in the hospital with serious injuries. After recovering, Gill embraced every opportunity to give back to the game he loved, serving at a variety of positions, including as Canadian Lacrosse Association’s manager of box lacrosse as well as president of the B.C. Lacrosse Association.

He was inducted into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2005.
